Example: how a post works

A sample post that shows what a post is made of

This is an example post. It exists so you can see how the blog works, and you can delete it whenever you like.

What a post is made of

Every post is a single text file. The block between the two lines of three dashes at the very top of the file holds the details: the title, an optional subtitle (the grey line under the title), the date, and optionally an author. Everything below that block is the post itself.

The file’s name becomes the post’s address. This one is saved as example-how-a-post-works.md, so it lives at blog.disformal.com/example-how-a-post-works/.

Writing the text

You write in plain text with a few simple marks:

  • Put ## in front of a line to make a heading, like the one above.
  • Put ** on both sides of words to make them bold, and * on both sides to make them italic.
  • Start a line with > to make a quote.
  • Put three dashes on a line of their own to make a divider.

A quote looks like this.

Linking to another post

To connect two posts, link from one to the other using the address of the post you want, written as [the words to show](/address-of-the-post/). For a working example, read the second example post.

Once you do that, something happens automatically: the post you linked to gets a Linked from list at its end, and this post gets a Links to list. Scroll down to see it.

When you are finished with the examples, delete the two example files and the blog starts empty.
